Back To Healthy Routines- Breakfast Tips

You've probably heard it, "breakfast is the most important meal of the day". With school back in session and family schedules busier than ever, starting the day off right with a nutritious breakfast can be a serious challenge. That's why we're excited to share some brain-boosting back-to-school breakfast tips that won't slow your family down during the morning rush hour.

Why Breakfast?

Breakfast is essential to getting the nutrients you need to fuel your day. For all members of the family, breakfast helps us meet nutritional recommendations for nutrients namely, calcium, Vitamin D and potassium. Consuming breakfast may also aid in maintaining a healthy weight, achieving optimal cholesterol levels, and reduced risk for heart disease and diabetes. Breakfast is even more important for children-boosting attention spans, concentration, and memory.

Breakfast Tips

Breakfast should include a variety of food groups (minimum of 3), ideally whole grains, fruit or vegetable and protein. This will provide a very balanced breakfast with good mix of nutrients and fiber.

The key to fitting in a healthy breakfast is to plan ahead. Simple recipes such as quick Overnight Oats or a Veggie Frittata are easy to prepare and pack ahead of time for a delicious grab-and-go breakfast that will satisfy the entire family. For some, the traditional bowl of cereal is the best way to go. Check out our easy guide to choosing a healthy cereal here, pair it with fresh fruit, and you're ready to conquer the day!

Take-away message:

A healthy breakfast is key to fueling our minds and bodies for a busy school or work day. A breakfast that is made up of at least 3 of the 5 food groups (whole grains, protein, fruit, veggies, and dairy) will ensure you and your family have the essential nutrients needed to start the day off right!
